Tim Rodenbröker is a designer, creative technologist, teacher and writer, based in Barcelona. Since more than a decade, he explores, practices and teaches Creative Coding. He is the founder of trcc, an online learning platform and cultural hub for Creative Coding. Around 2024 he founded 128KB, a platform for Creative Coding within Limits.
Together with Martin Lorenz, he runs a design studio called Coding Systems.
Tim has conducted workshops and courses at a wide range of international design institutions, including Elisava in Barcelona, the Glasgow School of Art, HEAD Genève and ECAL.
Since 2022 he is part of the curational team of the Design in Motion Festival. His artistic work has been shown in exhibitions in Melbourne, London, Manchester, Amsterdam, Barcelona and Chicago.
As a designer he has worked for a broad range of clients such as The New York Times, IBM, University of Pennsylvania, Julia Stoschek Foundation, Holo Magazine and Slate + Ash.
The word “downgrade" is his north star.
Tim Rodenbröker probes the tension at the heart of a deceptively simple question: what is software, really? For him, creative coding is the essential tool, a highly charged dialogue between human and machine. Writing code by hand, he argues, is how this small, deliberate act comes to address the larger questions of our time: Where is the line between computer as tool and computer as machine? And what does "technology on a human scale" (a phrase coined by Fritz Schumacher) mean today? Creative Coding then becomes philosophy: a way of asking questions and finding answers through the act of making.
