Back to the Future of the Internet

About a year ago, in February 2024, I was a invited speaker at an event at the Akasha Hub in Barcelona, where we discussed the future of the internet. The initiator was Kris de Decker from Low Tech Magazine, one of my favourite blogs on the www.
The topics we covered are more relevant today than ever: how to build a community on the web without becoming dependent on platforms. Spoiler: That’s not easy. What do the social media companies want? What can we learn from the past? Which technologies have we overlooked in the digital race that could offer us better opportunities today?
Kris de Decker talks about these topics from his perspective and experience as an author and blogger with almost 20 years of experience. Roel Roscam Abbing, who is researching alternative social networks, makes exciting suggestions about the Fediverse, a new generation of social networks, and I talk about my strategy for setting up trcc, or timrodenbroeker.de.
