Demo Festival 2025 recap

Hello folks!

The documentation material of the demo festival is ready! It was again a tremendous experience with hundreds of inspiring encounters, deep insights into the scene and tons of creativity.

I was incredibly pleased to meet so many people from the trcc community, not only in the submissions, but also on-location in Amsterdam.

This year I was once again part of the core curators team of Demo and together we looked through almost 6000 videos by creatives from all over the world. In the two years since the last festival edition, the rollercoaster ride of innovation and new technologies continued. You could be mistaken for thinking that mindless, generative aesthetics now dominate the whole scene. But the opposite turned out to be the case: perhaps the machine learning explosion is the reason why the small, subtle ideas that are clearly human are now making a particularly big impact and stand out. This is certainly also the reason for the curators’ appreciation of well-made works from the creative coding scene.
