Week 3 – Waves

Published by Tim on Wednesday May 14, 2025

Last modified on June 19th, 2025 at 11:08

This week we are delving into the realm of motion and exploring the functions sin(), cos() and tan() to create smooth, organic movement in your sketches. The mathematical functions appear a bit abstract and strange in the beginning, but don’t worry, they’re actually intuitive tools for creating rhythm and animation.

Let’s explore how we can make our sketches pulse, twist and loop. From simple oscillations to intricate waveforms – let’s add motion to our Creative Coding toolkit!

This Week’s Creative Prompts

Create three to five animations (square format), driven by wave motion, consisting of squares and using only two colors. Use for-loops to display multiple elements as explained in the waves course. Generate static images and animations that show a diverse range of motion patterns. Use the movie maker tool to create animations from static image exports. Post your results to the Discord channel #journeys.

That’s it for this week! I wish you good luck – enjoy the journey!

Tim
