Workshop: Creative Coding within Limits at HEAD Geneve

Fictional brief

The city of New York has found an amazing treasure in one of its underground storage spaces: 128 ancient grayscale dotmatrix displays with a resolution of 72×128 pixels (9:16). the screens have various sizes from small to huge, and can be mounted anywhere in the city. We, as a collective of designers and artists got the commission to develop artworks for these displays to explore in which ways they could be used to enrich the urban enviroment.

The displays have small microcomputers mounted to the back which can load gif files with a maximum filesize of 128kb. Our mission and brief is to create experimental visuals and sketches for interactive applications for these displays. To present the ideas, we create mockups (videos, gifs, jpgs, resolution 1600x1200px), displaying how these works could look in the wild. The best concept wins a price.
