Tonboutique Records

Founding a professional record label these days requires courage, belief and a very good business concept. A strong, remarkable visual identity can be a powerful tool to stand out from the masses but creative services are mostly unaffordable for young, cultural institutions. Tonboutique Records from Münster / Germany is one of those labels and I’ve created a dynamic visual identity for them in 2015. Together we worked out a key visual concept: Abstract icons of buttons became the main visual element. In 2016 the label increased the output of releases rapidly, so I was looking for a way to accelerate the cover-design workflow.

Researching dynamic visual identity systems inspired me to write a Processing-software that contains all the design rules that I’ve set for the label. This software continuously enables me to create individual covers following the set of design principles. Parameters like the color-scheme, icon and typography can simply be varied by moving the mouse and pressing a few buttons.
